Saturday: Preparation for the Thirty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Revised Common Lectionary Proper 29
Roman Catholic Proper 34

Complementary Hebrew Scripture: Isaiah 44:21-28

Remember these things, O Jacob,
 and Israel, for you are my servant;
I formed you, you are my servant;
 O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud,
 and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.

Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it;
 shout, O depths of the earth;
break forth into singing, O mountains,
 O forest, and every tree in it!
For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
 and will be glorified in Israel.

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
 who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord,
 who made all things,
 who alone stretched out the heavens,
 who by myself spread out the earth;
who frustrates the omens of liars,
 and makes fools of diviners;
who turns back the wise,
 and makes their knowledge foolish;
who confirms the word of his servant,
 and fulfills the prediction of his messengers;
 who says of Jerusalem,
 “It shall be inhabited,”
and of the cities of Judah,
 “They shall be rebuilt,
 and I will raise up their ruins”;
who says to the deep,
 “Be dry—I will dry up your rivers”;
who says of Cyrus,
 “He is my shepherd,
and he shall carry out all my purpose”;
and who says of Jerusalem,
 “It shall be rebuilt,”
 and of the temple,
 “Your foundation shall be laid.”

Semi-continuous Hebrew Scripture: Ezekiel 34:25-31

I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild animals from the land, so that they may live in the wild and sleep in the woods securely. I will make them and the region around my hill a blessing; and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. The trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase. They shall be secure on their soil; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and save them from the hands of those who enslaved them. They shall no more be plunder for the nations, nor shall the animals of the land devour them; they shall live in safety, and no one shall make them afraid. I will provide for them a splendid vegetation so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the insults of the nations. They shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, says the Lord GOD. You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture and I am your God, says the Lord GOD.

Complementary Psalm 95:1-7a

O come, let us sing to the Lord;
 let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
 let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
 and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
 the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
 and the dry land, which his hands have formed.

O come, let us worship and bow down,
 let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
 and we are the people of his pasture,
 and the sheep of his hand.

Semi-continuous Psalm 100

<A Psalm of thanksgiving.>
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
 come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
 we are his people,
 and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
 and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.

For the Lord is good;
 his steadfast love endures forever,
 and his faithfulness to all generations.

New Testament Gospel Lesson: Matthew 12:46-50

Jesus Christ

While he [Jesus] was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” But to the one who had told him this, Jesus replied, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
