Saturday Readings: Preparation for Trinity Sunday (Year A : Trinity)

Job 38:22-38

“Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? What is the way to the place where the light is distributed, or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth?

“Who has cut a channel for the torrents of rain, and a way for the thunderbolt, to bring rain on a land where no one lives, on the desert, which is empty of human life, to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground put forth grass?

Saturday Readings: Preparation for Transfiguration Sunday (Year A : Transfiguration)

1 Kings 21:20-29

Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you. Because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord, I will bring disaster on you; I will consume you, and will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel; and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin. Also concerning Jezebel the Lord said, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the bounds of Jezreel.’ Anyone belonging to Ahab who dies in the city the dogs shall eat; and anyone of his who dies in the open country the birds of the air shall eat.”

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the First Sunday in Lent (Year A : Lent 1.3)

Isaiah 58:1-12

Shout out, do not hold back!
Lift up your voice like a trumpet!
Announce to my people their rebellion,
to the house of Jacob their sins.

Yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness
and did not forsake the ordinance of their God;
they ask of me righteous judgments,
they delight to draw near to God.

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the Second Sunday in Lent (Year A : Lent 2.3)

Isaiah 51:4-8

Listen to me, my people,
and give heed to me, my nation;
for a teaching will go out from me,
and my justice for a light to the peoples.

I will bring near my deliverance swiftly,
my salvation has gone out
and my arms will rule the peoples;
the coastlands wait for me,
and for my arm they hope.

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the Third Sunday in Lent (Year A : Lent 3.3)

Exodus 16:27-35

On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, and they found none. The Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and instructions? See! The Lord has given you the sabbath, therefore on the sixth day he gives you food for two days; each of you stay where you are; do not leave your place on the seventh day.” So the people rested on the seventh day. The house of Israel called it manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the Fourth Sunday in Lent (Year A : Lent 4.3)

1 Samuel 15:32-34

Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag king of the Amalekites here to me.” And Agag came to him haltingly. Agag said, “Surely this is the bitterness of death.” But Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother shall be childless among women.” And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lordin Gilgal. Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house in Gibeah of Saul.

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the Fifth Sunday in Lent (Year A : Lent 5.3)

Ezekiel 36:8-15

But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot out your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they shall soon come home. See now, I am for you; I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown; and I will multiply your population, the whole house of Israel, all of it; the towns shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt; and I will multiply human beings and animals upon you. They shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you than ever before. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. I will lead people upon you–my people Israel–and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance. No longer shall you bereave them of children.

Saturday Readings: Preparation for the Seventh Sunday of Easter (Year A / Easter 7:3)

2 Kings 2:13-15 Elisha takes up Elijah's mantle, strikes the Jordan, and crosses over. The company of prophets at Jericho said "The Spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha," and they bowed before him.

John 8:21-30 Jesus says, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will realize that I am he; I do nothing on my own, but speak as God has instructed me. The one who sent me is with me." When he said these things many believed in him.
